Director, Gift Planning
Ian Garrett joined Cornell University in 2001 in a major gift fundraising role, later transitioning into planned giving. He currently serves as Director of Gift Planning in the university’s Office of Trusts, Estates and Gift Planning, managing relationships with some of Cornell’s most generous benefactors.
During his tenure, Ian has been a key part of focused initiatives aimed at strengthening Cornell’s long-term success through documented, planned gifts. His tenure also includes the full duration of the “Cornell Now” campaign, which closed in 2015 with more than $6.3 billion raised toward a $5.75 billion goal.
Ian began his fundraising career in consulting with the Winslow Group in North Carolina, serving nonprofit clients with campaign planning and other fundraising counsel. He earned an M.P.A. with a concentration in nonprofit management from Indiana University and served as a Graduate Assistant in the Center on Philanthropy (now the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy). He also earned a B.A. in political science from Binghamton University.
