Kristi Shewmaker is a freelance writer and mission-driven storyteller working primarily in the academic medicine field. In 2022, she joined Scottish Rite for Children in Dallas as a Communications Specialist where she serves as editor and writer for publications including Rite Up magazine and the hospital’s annual Progress Report. She collaborates with graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and writers to create content that celebrates donors, trustees, patients, and families.

Over the previous 10 years, Kristi served as Director of Development Communication at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders. Part of the University of Texas at Dallas, the Callier Center is the nation’s leading educational, clinical, and research center dedicated to speech, language, and hearing disorders. Kristi’s work there advanced Callier’s identity in the community and contributed to its fundraising goals through a rebranding initiative, two comprehensive fundraising campaigns and a signature annual fundraising event. She created the annual impact report, e-newsletters, campaign case statements, major donor proposals, annual giving appeals, video scripts, website content, and speeches.

Her entry into fundraising began at Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University. For five years, she worked with the executive director and board of the Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children program and foundation.

Kristi graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing. She later earned a Certificate in Creative Writing from Middle Tennessee State University.
